Art for Your Airbnb: Wall Art That Makes Listing Photos Stand Out

Bedroom in our own Airbnb rental: a light wood king bed with green bedding, a cream knit throw and a tufted leather bench at the foot. Centered above the headboard hang two framed Tilewash Pear Blossom prints in oak frames with white mats, loose grids of soft green, pink and ochre watercolor squares, between wooden nightstands with lit lamps.

Short answer: Give each main room one bold, original piece instead of a cluster of small ones. Over a queen bed or a standard sofa, hang a 24×32 in print (about 30×38 in framed). Use 18×24 in entries and small bedrooms, and 12×16 for bathrooms and narrow walls. Choose framed prints with acrylic glazing so they hold up to guests and cleaning, and pick warm, mid-tone colors that read well in listing photos.

Guests scroll past dozens of listings that look the same. One distinctive piece of art on the wall in your cover photo is a cheap way to look like a real home and not a rental template. Here's how hosts can choose art that photographs well, holds up to turnover, and fits the rooms you actually have.

1. Buy art for the photos first

Your listing photos are where art earns its keep. When choosing:

  • One focal piece per photo. A single larger print reads clearly in a phone-sized thumbnail. A gallery wall of small frames turns into visual noise.
  • Mid-tones and clear shapes. Very dark pieces go flat in photos. Pure-white art blends into white walls. Bold forms and color blocks stay readable after the listing site compresses your image.
  • Echo a color in the room. Pull one color from a throw, pillow, or rug into the art. The photo looks styled without you having to restyle the room.
  • Shoot it straight and level. Hang at eye level (center around 57–60 in from the floor, or 8–10 in above a headboard or sofa back) so it sits naturally in wide-angle shots.
  • Avoid photographing glare. Turn off overhead lights, shoot with window light from the side, and check each frame on your phone screen before you take the final photo.

2. Sizes for typical rental rooms

Every Remix Studio print is 3:4 portrait. A good rule: art should span about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. That's hard with one portrait piece over wide furniture, so go big or hang a pair.

On the pale green wall above hang two framed Ridgeline prints in oak frames: on the left, blush-pink hills under a pale sun; on the right, deep green striped moorland under a green sun. A hallway with white doors and wood-look floors leads off to the left.

3. Durable enough for guest turnover

Rental art gets bumped, leaned on, and wiped down by cleaners. What holds up:

  • Framed is the host choice. Framed prints come in solid wood (black, white, or natural oak) with a 2″ white mat, faced with optical-grade clear acrylic (not glass). Acrylic is lighter than glass. Like any clear glazing it can reflect a window or lamp, so plan your photo lighting (see above).
  • Archival matte paper. Every print is on archival matte fine art paper, so it won't fade quickly.
  • Arrives ready to hang. Framed prints ship ready to hang, so you aren't paying a handyman to frame. Use two hooks or picture-hanging strips with security tabs so frames stay level after every turnover.
  • Unframed for tight budgets. Unframed prints ship rolled and cost less. They're best in your own frames or in low-traffic rooms.
  • Made to order. Each print is made to order in 2–3 business days, so you can refresh a unit quickly before peak season.

4. Cozy, not sterile

Most short-term rentals are homes, cabins, cottages, and condos, not gallery lofts. Guests book places that feel lived in. For warm, cozy spaces:

  • Choose warm or earthy palettes (rust, sand, sage, ochre, dusty blue) over stark black-and-white.
  • Painterly and soft-edged styles feel at home with wood, linen, and quilts.
  • Match the setting. Calm horizon bands suit lake and mountain places. Flowing waves and ribbons suit beach and river rentals.
  • Original beats generic. Mass-market prints show up in thousands of listings. A one-of-a-kind piece means guests won't see your wall in the next listing over.

5. Recommended styles for rentals

Every design is one of a kind: remix until one fits your place, save it, and nobody else can ever get it.

  • Ridgeline: Landscapes, layer by layer. Calm layered bands, a natural fit for cabins and mountain or lake rentals, especially over a bed. Example: Ridgeline No. 2.
  • Gyre: Weather in brushstrokes. Painterly and warm, made for cozy living rooms. Examples: Gyre No. 5, Gyre No. 4.
  • Waves: Water parting around stones. Flowing movement for beach, lake, and river places. Example: Waves 6c0b.
  • Current: Ribbons in a current. Movement and color for beach, lake, and river places. Examples: Current No. 8, Current No. 7.
  • Tilewash: Watercolor, in a loose grid. Soft and quiet, good for bedrooms and bathrooms. Examples: Tilewash No. 3, Tilewash No. 1.
  • Orbit: Circles, cut and overlapping. A bold, graphic statement piece for an entry or a modern condo. Try warm palettes like Rose Dusk. Example: Orbit b9a8 (Rose Dusk).

FAQ

What size art should go above the bed in an Airbnb?
For a queen or king bed, a 24×32 in print (about 30×38 in framed) or a pair of 18×24 in prints. Hang the bottom edge 8–10 in above the headboard.
What kind of art looks best in Airbnb listing photos?
One larger focal piece per room, in mid-tone colors with clear shapes. Pick a color that echoes something in the room. Small, busy, or very dark pieces get lost in thumbnails.
Is framed art safe for a short-term rental?
Framed Remix Studio prints use optical-grade clear acrylic (not glass), so they're lighter than glass. Secure frames with two hooks or locking hanging strips so they stay level between guests.
How do I avoid glare when photographing framed art?
Turn off overhead lights, use window light from the side, and shoot slightly off-angle. Check the image on your phone before the final shot.
Is the art one of a kind?
Yes. Every design is generated from its own code, and once you save it, that code is retired, so no other listing can have the same piece.
